Modbox is a modular cabinet that makes storage and furniture more practical for people who move around frequently. Made out of sustainable materials and a timeless design, Modbox is meant to be a lifetime-lasting piece of furniture companion that follows you on your adventure.
"MODULARITY"
MODBOX comes with a simple iteration of hermaphroditic connectors that allow users to configure the cabinets to their liking. Adding and subtracting the cabinets make adapting the cabinets for different spaces in a home or room easy. The main objective of this piece of furniture is to have an always useful and functional design that is straightforward and visually pleasing with a modular approach.
DESIGN
The idea for this cabinet derived from the problem of moving to new places frequently. Furniture plays a key role in making a home feel like home. Moving furniture and other personal items separately is a hassle, hence giving me a lightbulb moment to design a piece of furniture that makes moving easier while featuring different furniture elements all in one simple cabinet. MODBOX combines the best of Japanese and Scandinavian lifestyles for a unique approach.
MAKING
After conducting extensive research and testing, I was able to achieve the final design that boasts a simple, yet stable and robust structure and design for each component. I have elegantly transformed the use of wood joints such as Miter, biscuit, dowels and angled cuts into aesthetic accents that add to the overall quality of the design. After testing with more users, I can happily say that all the parts were made to be comfortable for people to use and can easily hold the weight of an average adult.
